Steph
My athletic career began somewhere before my 4th birthday. Competitive swimming was my way to be excellent. I was privileged enough to train at the then famous Pine Knoll Swim School in MA and the unparalleled International Swimming Hall of Fame in FL with world class coaches who trained Olympians like Mary T Maugher (my hero).
I also danced. I loved ballet but didn’t have the body type for it so I ventured into jazz and hip-hop. Hence begins my lifelong love of urban music, style and dance.
By early High School, my sports pursuits leaned towards tennis. I loved the court; strength and strategy were as important as speed. Again, I had amazing opportunities, even at Adidas sponsored youth training camps.
When I went to BU, I was recruited to row. Being part of a D1 athletic program shaped my college experience. So much time was dedicated to crew. It’s an amazing and often grueling sport. After college I turned to group exercise, especially Step Aerobics (remember the original Reebok program?) to redefine my active life. Soon after graduation, I moved to FL, and after a brief stint at the Candy Colby School of Aerobics (look her up, and don’t judge…it was the early 90’s), my career as a GroupX instructor was born.
I had a primary career in hospitality as well, and fast forward about 9 years, found myself back in VT.
Early on, I was a part-time stay-at-home mom and exercise instructor in local facilities, growing my teaching responsibilities while acquiring certifications and licensures in various programs. One that hit big for me was Zumba Fitness. I got my license early on, when Zumba was a fledgling fitness entity. I loved it. It was a way to put all my aerobics background and love of dance together. It was slow getting northern New England folks to buy into it, but as the craze was taking off, I took a big leap of faith and opened a small independent studio in 2010. Alongside, I was exploring the vast world of Pilates. It started on the mat with a local instructor with an extensive background. I dove into the education. The equipment quickly turned into my passion. What is now extremely popular, was still somewhat obscure in the early 2000’s, but I forged ahead… purchasing my first reformer and taking on some 1:1 clients.
I trained with Stott, Balanced Body, Peak and Aeropilates. I was lucky to study under June Kahn, Leslee Bender and even some legendary instructors at Physical Mind Institute in NYC.
When Zumba unleashed their Zumba in the Circuit program (affiliated with Curves), I pioneered that initiative in VT. When TRX was first available, a fellow trainer in town and I had some of the first group classes in the area. I have always been interested in what is new and relevant, while keeping the studio niche streamlined.

Today, the studio is in a smaller, more curated space, and we are pleased to offer group exercise in several different disciplines. Pilates and whole body is always a core focus. We encourage hard work and a healthy dose of fun. We are accountable but completely judgement free. I am so pleased to do what I love and love the studio 108 community.
